“Since I was a kid, I’ve loved being caught in thunderstorms. Those memories have always excited me. Today, as a fine art photographer, my passion is photographing landscapes in the nastiest weather I can possibly find. So the natural question for me was: Why not try to “experiment” and chase after the nastiest storm systems possible as an extension of my landscape work?”

Life on the Tracks: Central American Migration in Mexico

Thousands of undocumented Central American migrants journey across Mexico every year, risking their lives in the hope of reaching the United States. They come from countries such as Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, where free trade economic policies have devastated local economies forcing men and women to leave their homes in search of a better life in the United States and Canada.

The journey often begins by crossing into Mexican border states such as Chiapas and Tabasco, and continues by riding freight trains known as “the beast.” Train schedules are erratic, and migrants can spend anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks waiting in train yards that have grown increasingly dangerous.

Many migrants are victims of robbery, kidnapping, rape and extortion along the train route. They are forced to pay off everyone from thieves and gang-members to immigration officials and police on a regular basis, facing dire consequences if they do not cooperate. Due to the Drug War and the importance of human trafficking in the narco-economy, brutal treatment of migrants is currently at an all time high.

This series is inspired partially by Todd McLellan’s Disassembly series.

Qi Wei says about this project:
“Exploded flowers which are images that show the radial symmetry of flowers, and also individual floral components.
The act of disassembly (I hesitate to use the term dissection because this series is not meant to be a scientific treatise) lays bare the various shapes and textures of the flowers, and what is interesting to me is how much more expanded some flowers can get when they are disassembled – the relative surface area to size of a rose is so much greater compared to a larger flower like the sunflower.”

The idea of Dear Photograph is to take a snapshot – usually one featuring one or more people and dating from the film-photography era — and holding it up against the original setting so that past and present blend into a new work of art.

Just discovered the work of Jimmy Chin by watching the below video on petapixel.

So After watching this great video, I checked his portfolio and who he was.

Jimmy Chin was born and raised in Mankato, Minnesota and is an accomplished climber, mountaineer, skier and photographer. He has organized and participated in numerous climbing, ski-mountaineering and exploratory expeditions to Tibet, China, Pakistan, Nepal, Tanzania, Mali, South Africa and Argentina.

Accidental Career!
In 1999 Chin was training in California’s Yosemite Valley for an expedition. After a six-day climb of El Capitan, Chin picked up the camera of his climbing partner, himself a budding photographer.

“I had woken up early with the morning sun and took a photo of Brady sleeping in his bag next to all of the gear we had strewn across the ground,” Chin said.
Out of the entire roll, the frame shot by Chin was the only one that sold.

You can read more about Jimmy’s Accidental Career on this National Geographic Article : http://bit.ly/n3EuTP

Below are some beautiful shots I got on his website.

In 2008, Maureen Drennan was a couple of hours north of San Francisco for a friend’s wedding. One afternoon, she walked into a motocross shop and found a grizzled man drinking beer. When she poked fun at his early happy hour, the two got to talking.

He invited her for a tour of his marijuana farm, which ultimately became the subject of her photo essay, “Meet Me in the Green Glen.”

Although growing marijuana is legal in California, it retains a certain stigma. So in Ms. Drennan’s photos, the farmer is known simply as Ben.

Maureen Drennan has a master’s in fine arts from the School of Visual Arts. She teaches photography at LaGuardia and Kingsborough Community Colleges. But whenever she gets a chance — during school breaks and on vacation days — she slips away to California to make photographs of the marijuana farm.
